A great place to take the kiddos. They have a great playground. A place to play soccer and a skate park. You can feed the greedy ducks and geese. Downside there's geese poop everywhere
It's a beautiful place to picnic and hike! Try walking or jogging Elk River Trail. It's so peaceful by the river. Would be nice if they had more than one bathroom that was open any length of time.
Coonskin is a great park. It has a large pool that's old but well maintained. And it has several playgrounds for all ages to play. The duck pond is nice. You used to be able to take paddle boats out on it. I wish they'd bring that back.
The walkways are in a very serious state of disrepair, to the point of dangerous if you don't look down the whole time you're walking. They have vending machines for drinks, but I have never been able to purchase one either due to malfunction or being completely sold out. It's an OK place to fish as long as you bring plenty of extra tackle and a cooler with your own drinks along. The sites around for picnics are nice though. (if anyone from the park sees this, let me know why the awesome paddle boats aren't still there)
Beautiful park.. nice new entry even though it is less convenient for me to visit. The hiking trails aren't clearly marked and the park rangers are pretty grumpy if you are heading toward your vehicle in dim light.. I've hiked Kanawha State forest with headlamps in the winter months starting at 630pm..and that's a blast... reconsider the approach toward people that use the park..
